If you’ve never used the London Underground before don’t panic. Here to help is London planners guide. For the do’s and don’ts of the Tube in 60 seconds.

Do use an oyster card. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to travel. Simply touch it on the yellow reader. The Machine goes beep and then you go.

Don’t use paper tickets. You have to queue up to buy them. They’re much more expensive. They take much longer to put through the machine.

Do plan your route. Make sure you know which direction you’re going in so you don’t hold people up. Don’t do unnecessary short journeys. These stations here are really close together you might be better off walking.

Do stand on the right of the escalator allowing other people to walk past.
Don’t stand on the left of the escalator or you’ll hold up the whole station.

Do ask for help. If you’re not 100% sure you’re on the right train just ask. We are a friendly bunch. Don’t press the open door button. It doesn’t do anything.

Do have your card ready on the way out so you can exit the station with a minimum of fuss. Don’t wait till just before the barrier to look for it otherwise this happens.
